Hawks Battle but Fall to Millersville

Justin Bagbey hit two HR's in today's doubleheader
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The baseball team fell to 6-9-1 on the year after falling in two tough games to Millersville University this afternoon. Chowan fell with final scores of 6-5 and 9-6 in the non-conference doubleheader. Millersville University moves to 5-4 on the year after today's doubleheader. The two teams will meet on Sunday afternoon in a 12:00pm, single nine-inning game to wrap up the three game series.

The Hawks were held to five hits in the 6-5 loss but forced extra inning play after Justin Bagbey belted a grandslam in the bottom of the 7th to knot the game at 5-5. Millersville's Derek Cline hit a solo homerun in the top of the 10th inning to get a one run lead that would give his team the eventual 6-5 extra winning win. Robert Weaver came in for relief of Will Medlin to pick up the loss. Weaver pitched three innings and gave up a run while Medlin pitched the first seven innings, giving up five runs.

The Hawks bounced back offensively in the nightcap, pounding out 14 hits as a team. Chowan took a 6-5 lead heading into the 7th inning but the Marauders scored three runs in their last at-bat to take a 9-5 lead. Chowan put a run up in their final at-bat but their comeback fell just short. Andrew Hales who pitched in relief of Tyler King is credited with the loss after throwing the last two innings. He gave up seven hits and four runs. John Atkins started the game and threw three innings before King came in for middle relief.

Adam Capps was 3-3 at the plate while Justin Shockley was 3-4 with two runs scored. Mike Taylor was 2-4 with two RBI. Bagbey hit his 7th homerun of the season in game two.

Chowan will host the Marauders tomorrow in a single, nine inning game to wrap up the series.
