Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The baseball team improved to 12-13-1 overall and 5-3 in CIAA after sweeping a doubleheader against defending CIAA Champs Virginia State University this afternoon. The Hawks won with final game scores of 7-3 and 7-0. Chowan collected 20 hits and held the Trojans to 12 in both games. The Hawks will travel to Virginia State tomorrow for a doubleheader in Ettrick, Virginia.
Chowan used a five-run first inning to get on top of the Trojans early in the first game of the twinbill.
Andrew Hales picked up the win on the mound after throwing 5.1 innings, giving up three runs and striking out three batters.
Tyler Chelenza came in to throw the last 1.2 innings for his 3rd save of the season.
John Kellett was 2-4 with two runs scored and a solo homerun in the win while
Brandon Mack also collected two hits.
Ryan Bradshaw threw a complete game shut out in the nightcap win. He gave up just three hits and struck out five Trojan batters for his 3rd win of the season.
Justin Bagbey was 3-3 with a double and
Justin Shockley was 2-2 with two runs knocked in.
The Hawks will play at home again on Wednesday, March 31st against Saint Pauls College.
