Softball Drops Twinbill to West Virginia State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The softball team saw their eleven-game win streak come to an end this afternoon as they dropped a twinbill nonconference match up to West Virginia State University. The Hawks fell with scores of 6-0 and 5-4 to move to 16-17 on the year.

The Hawks were held to just three hits in the 6-0 first game loss. Allie Kolezynski was 3-3 at the plate, getting all three of CU's team hits. She pitched in relief in the game but Christie Wright picked up the loss after throwing the first four innings. Wright gave up four runs, two of which were earned, and struck out three.

Chowan bounced back in the second game to out hit the Yellow Jackets 10-7. But after a  West Virginia State run in the top of the seventh that busted a 4-4 tie, Chowan would get the eventual 5-4 loss. After trailing 4-1 heading into the 6th inning, the Hawks scored three runs on three hits to knot the game at 4-4. The Yellow Jackets scored the winning run off an RBI triple in their ensuing at-bat to take the win.

Jessica Farmer got the loss on the mound after throwing a complete game. She gave up four earned runs and struck out one in the contest. Brooke Owen was 3-4 with an RBI double while Mindy Byrd and Kolezynski were both 2-4 at the plate.

Chowan will take off until Friday when they travel to Fayetteville State University for a 3:00pm CIAA doubleheader.
