MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2025-2026 Chowan Athletic season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week. For the week of March 25 – April 1,
Abby Rutledge of the softball team and
Reed Low of the men's lacrosse team, have been recognized for their standout performances over the past week of competition.
Abby Rutledge turned in a dominant week in the circle, earning two wins and two saves to improve to 8-2 on the season with five saves, while helping lead the Hawks to a 5-1 record against three conference opponents. Rutledge opened the week on March 25 against Barton, entering in game two and closing out the final three innings. She allowed just two hits while keeping the Bulldogs scoreless, retiring 12 batters faced. She later secured her second win of the week in game one against Ferrum, tossing the final 2.2 innings and limiting the Panthers to one hit and one run to help preserve a 6-5 victory. In game two against Ferrum, Rutledge delivered another strong outing, earning the save after pitching the final 3.2 innings. She allowed just one hit, held the Panthers scoreless, and struck out six in the 5-1 win. Rutledge capped off her week against Francis Marion, recording her second save by closing out game two with a scoreless inning, allowing no hits while striking out two. The performance helped secure the Hawks' first win over the Patriots since 2008.
On the men's lacrosse side, Reed Low delivered a standout performance in Chowan's lone contest of the week against Emmanuel University. Low recorded a game-high seven goals on nine shots while adding two assists for a total of nine points. The junior from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada continues to lead the Hawks offensively, totaling 46 goals and 63 points on the season, while already rewriting the Chowan record book with his production this year.
