MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2025-2026 Chowan Athletic season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week. For the week of April 8 – April 15, Makenzi Curry of the softball team and Jordan Turner of the baseball team, have been recognized for their standout performances over the past week of competition.

Makenzi Curry went 3-0 last week, pitching 13.3 innings and improving to 11-7 on the season. Against King University, she tossed 5.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits in a 3-2 win, while also contributing a hit at the plate. Curry closed out the week with a pair of wins over Converse, beginning with a complete-game shutout in which she allowed just two hits in a 4-0 victory. She also led the offense in that game, recording two hits and driving in four runs. She then secured the final win of the week, pitching the last 1.2 innings in an 8-4 victory, allowing one run on three hits and striking out two, while adding another hit at the plate.

Jordan Turner delivered a consistent performance at the plate across the Hawks' four games last week, posting a .437 batting average. He opened the series against Shorter with a two-hit performance, scoring three runs in game one. In game two, Turner added another hit and crossed the plate twice, before closing out the series with a hit and an RBI in game three. In the Hawks' seven-inning matchup against William Peace, Turner made an immediate impact with a first-inning double that sparked the team's scoring. He went on to score three of the Hawks' seven runs, tally another hit, and drive in two RBI to cap off a strong week.
