MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2025-2026 Chowan Athletic season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week. For the week of February 11 – February 18, Makenzi Curry of the softball team and Reed Low of the men's lacrosse team, have been recognized for their standout performances over the past week of competition.
Makenzi Curry has been named the Ace Hardware Student-Athlete of the Week after a standout stretch that showcased her impact as a true dual-threat for the softball team. Curry delivered a dominant showing in the circle at the Old Coast Classic on February 13 and 14, tossing five scoreless innings against Flagler while allowing just three hits to help set up a 2-1 extra-inning victory, and later added three innings of relief with two strikeouts versus Valdosta State. Her offensive consistency matched her pitching efforts, highlighted by a 2-for-3 performance that same day before continuing her strong play during a home sweep over Elizabeth City State and Shaw University, where she reached base three times, drove in a run, and earned the win in the circle to move to 3-0 on the season.
Reed Low delivered a dominant offensive stretch for Chowan University men's lacrosse, earning weekly recognition after totaling 10 goals across two games emerging as one of the team's top scoring threats. Low opened the week with a five-goal performance on nine shots in a road matchup against Coker, accounting for a significant portion of the Hawks' offense and consistently breaking through defensive pressure, before returning home to replicate that performance with another five goals and an assist against Tusculum University in the Hawks' home opener. Low's 10-goal performance not only led the team offensively for the week but also reinforced his role in the Hawks offensive game.
