MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2025-2026 Chowan Athletic season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week. For the week of February 4 – February 11, Nyeisha Savage of the women's basketball team and William Hynes of the men's basketball team, have been recognized for their standout performances over the past week of competition.
Nyeisha Savage continued to improve throughout the three-game stretch, having a strong defensive and offensive outing to end the week's play with a double-double. Savage opened the week on Wednesday, February 4 with a 10-point, six-rebound performance in a road win over Mount Olive, where she also added two blocks and a steal. She reached a new career milestone on Saturday, February 7 against Southern Wesleyan, garnering a career-high 25 points. During that win, she shot an efficient 11-of-15 from the floor and nearly secured a double-double with nine rebounds and two blocks. Savage rounded out the week in a divisional match up against Francis Marion on Tuesday, February 10. Currently leading the team in both rebounding and blocked shots, Savage has gotten things done on both sides of the ball throughout the season.
William Hynes earns Ace Hardware Student-Athlete of the Week honor after delivering his strongest scoring performance of his career. Hynes helped lead the Hawks to a 2-1 record over the week, starting with a 79-66 victory over Mount Olive on Tuesday, February 4 where he contributed seven points, five rebounds, and two steals. After a hard-fought overtime battle against Southern Wesleyan on Saturday, February 7, Hynes finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, an a perfect percentage from beyond the arc (2-2) and at the free throw line(5-5). He saved his best for last on Tuesday, February 10 against Francis Marion. In the 95-85 win, Hynes poured in a career-high 29 points to lead all scorers. He was lethal from the perimeter, connecting on six three-pointers, and showed poise at the free throw line going 7-9. Hynes also added four assists, three rebounds, and three steals in that match up.
