MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University men's basketball team hosted Young Harris College in the 16th annual Play4Kay matchup on Saturday evening. The Hawks battled down to the final seconds in a back-and-forth contest, coming up just short in an 86-83 decision. Five Hawks reached double figures in the tightly contested game, providing balanced scoring throughout. With the result, Chowan moves to 11-5 in conference play.

Damerius Summers paced the Hawks with 20 points on an efficient 9-13 shooting performance, adding two steals, one block, and one assist. Markell Hollis followed with 15 points, shooting 6-10 from the field and a perfect 2-2 from the free-throw line. Hollis also recorded a game-high three blocks and pulled down six rebounds.
Israel Powell contributed 13 points, knocking down two three-pointers while adding three rebounds, a steal, and going 1-1 from the line. Damien Robinson and Joseph Lezeau II each added 10 points to round out the double-figure scorers. Robinson shot 4-5 from the field, while Lezeau added four rebounds and two assists in his effort.
As a team, the Hawks shot an impressive 53.1 percent (34-64) from the field and 80 percent (8-10) from the free-throw line. Chowan tallied 50 points in the paint, collected 30 rebounds, and received 25 bench points. The Hawks also turned defense into offense with 18 points off turnovers and added 13 fast-break points.
