Chowan Swimming Competes at Washington and Lee

LEXINGTON, V.A. - The Chowan University men's and women's swim teams competed in their second double-dual meet of the 2026 season on Saturday afternoon with a double dual meet against Washington and Lee University and Randolph-Macon University. The Hawks are opening January 2026 by competing every Saturday in the month and are halfway complete with the month's competition.

The Hawks opened the meet with the 200 Medley Relay with the women's team finishing 7th and the men capturing 5th place. The women's relay team of Emma Rooney, Lina Danna, Vanja Romic, and Hasnae Idrissi finished with a time of 2:04.75 to open the meet. The men's relay team of Robert Liz Cabrera, Aleksei Belolipetskii, Stefan Reedy, and Dimitrije Markovic touched the wall at 1:41.07 to get the meet started. 

Michael Grenier finished in 5th place in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:55.48. Rooney placed 8th in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:11.42 and Markovic placed 2nd for the Hawks on the men's side with a time of 1:48.47. Quinton Mitchell and Christopher Goode placed 10th and 11th respectively in the 200 yard freestyle. 

Idrissi same to a 9th place finish in the 100 yard backstroke while Reedy finished 7th on the men's side in the same event. Romic placed 7th in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.20. Belolipetskii finished up 2nd on the men's side of the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.57 while Cabrera placed 3rd in the 50 yard freestyle. Reedy finished the 50 yard freestyle in 9th place while Isaiah Gill and Julius Riley finished up 11th and 12th respectively. 

Danna finished 8th in the 100 yard freestyle for the Hawks while Belolipetskii wrapped up the 100 yard butterfly in 4th place with a time of 54.47, which was nearly four seconds faster than his fastest time this season in this event. Rooney finished 5th in the 200 yard IM event while Markovic completed the 200 IM event in 2nd place with a time of 2:02.04. 

UP NEXT 

The Hawks will keep the January competition going as they host Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday, January 24th, 2026 at Bynum Brown pool. Meet time is slated to begin at 1:00pm.
