Romic, Turanjanin Shine in Day Two Events at King Invitational

KINGSPORT, TN - The Chowan University swim team continued to make waves in the pool at the 2025 King University Mid season Invitational on Tuesday evening. Day two saw freshman female swimmers Vanja Romic and Sara Turanjanin take top finishes in the 100 breaststroke and the 100 backstroke respectively. 

Romic set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke after touching the wall at 1:06.15, breaking a five-year old school record. Turanjanin posted the second best 100 backstroke time in program history after finishing in first place with a 58.29 finishing time. 

Romic and Turanjanin added to the event win total for the Hawks after their top finishes on Tuesday. Dimitrije Markovic and Robert Liz Cabrera picked up event wins in the 500 freestyle and the 50 freestyle respectively on day one to make the Hawks top event win total stand at four heading into the final sessions on Wednesday in Kingsport. 

FULL RESULTS-DAY TWO 

INSIDE THE LANES 
The men's 400 medley relay team made up of Markovic, Liz Cabrera, Michael Grenier, and Aleksei Belolipetskii, finished in 4th place with a time of 3:39.68. 

Emma Rooney placed 3rd in the women's 400 IM with a finishing time of 4:51.92 while Grenier finished fourth on the men's side of the race with a time of 4:24.94. 

Quintin Mitchell took top spot in the B-Final of the 100 butterfly with a finishing time of 56.00. Lina Danna finished 6th in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.65 while Markovic finished the 200 yard freestyle in second place with a time of 1:42.54. Belolipetskii finished in 3rd place in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a sub-60 time of 57.77. Hasnae Idrissi finished in 6th place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.03 while teammate Elizabeth Waltz competed in the B-Final with a time of 1:19.29. 

Liz Cabrera finished in 5th place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.09 and freshman Stefan Reedy finished just behind in 7th place with a time of 57.99. 

UP NEXT 

The Hawks will wrap up the invitational on Wednesday with another two-session day. Wednesday's slate will feature the 200 backstroke, the 100 freestyle, the 200 breaststroke, the 200 butterfly, the 1650 freestyle, and the 400 freestyle relay.
