KINGSPORT, T.N. - The Chowan University swim team wrapped up the final session at the 2025 King Tornado Mid-season Invitational on Wednesday evening with a third place combined team finish. Mars Hill University and the host team, King University, finished ahead of the Hawks in the three-day event. The Hawks outpaced Barton and West Virginia Tech all weekend to grab the 3rd place finish.
The Hawks swimmers on both the men's and women's teams turned in personal bests on the final day of competition and ended the event with nineteen medals (4 gold, 3 silver, 12 bronze). Twenty-eight times the Hawks swimmers swam personal bests in events while 11 times Hawks swimmers recorded season bests. Robert Liz Cabrera, Dimitrije Markovic, Vanja Romic, and Sara Turanjanin each grabbed gold medals in the three-day event. Liz Cabrera posted a personal best in the 50 free to take the gold, as did Markovic in the 500 freestyle. Romic set a school record to grab gold in the 100 breaststroke and Turanjanin took the top spot in the 100 backstroke.
FINAL SESSION RESULTS
INSIDE THE LANES
Chowan got solid performances from Hawks swimmers on both sides of Wednesday's final session, including a second place finish by freshman Michael Grenier in the 1650 race. Grenier touched the wall in the 1650 with a time of 17:13.99 to earn his second medal of the three-day event. His second place finish was a personal best in the event.
Elizabeth Waltz swam a personal best in the 200 back stroke, finishing at 2:55.56 to open the final session. On the men's side, Stefan Reedy swam a personal best in the same event, touching the wall at 2:21.09 to finish 3rd and earn a bronze medal.
In the 100 freestyle, Vanja Romic and Sara Turanjanin finished 4th and 5th, also turning in personal bests in the event. Lina Danna finished in 7th place, swimming a personal best in the event with a time of 56.08.
Robert Liz Cabrera picked up a bronze medal in the 100 freestyle after swimming a personal best in the event. Liz Cabrera touched the wall at 46.29. Teammates Aleksei Belolipetskii and Dimitrije Markovic finished just milliseconds behind Liz Cabrera touching the wall for 4th and 5th place finishes.
Emma Rooney finished 6th in the 200 breaststroke on the women's side while Grenier turned in another personal best in the same event, touching the wall at 2:12.90 for a 5th place finish.
In the final relay of the event, the Hawks teams swam to a 3rd place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Sara Turanjanin, Vanja Romic, Lina Danna, and Emma Rooney swam to a 3rd place finish with a time of 3:43.80. On the men's side, the team was anchored by veteran swimmers Robert Liz Cabera, Aleksei Belolipetskii, Dimitrije Markovic and newcomer talent Michael Grenier. The team touched the wall at 3:08.99, just milliseconds off a second place touch.

Following the mid-season meet, the Hawks will take time to recover before returning to the competition segment in the new year. The Hawks will host Virginia Wesleyan on January 24th in a 1:00pm meet at Bynum Brown Aquatic Center.
