GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Chowan University baseball team fell to 1-7 on the year after dropping a doubleheader to Lander University in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 

Lander used a six run first inning to jump out to an early lead in game one of the doubleheader. Elvis Rumaldo got the Hawks on the board in game one after driving in Ryan Bellamy on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Lander went on to score nine runs over their next six at-bats to take the 15-5 win over the Hawks in game one. Chowan posted three runs in the top of the 7th with back to back RBI singles by Jackson Dunlap and Ryan Bellamy. 

Carson Everette got the nod on the mound and was relieved by Nicky Wohleking. Landon Tyndall and Nick Mason also pitched in relief. Jackson Dunlap, Ryan Bellamy, and Ethan Robinson each tallied two hits in game one to lead the Hawks offensively. 

After trailing 3-0 in the top of the fourth, CU's Elvis Rumaldo ripped a triple, plating Ethan Robinson and Ryan Bellamy to cut into the Lander lead at 3-2. Angel Diaz started the game for the Hawks on the mound and pitched 4.1 innings. Lander went on to plate seven runs over their next two at-bats to take the 10-3 win over the Hawks. Chowan tallied eight hits in the game, led by Rumaldo who had a triple and two RBI. Jackson Dunlap added a hit and an RBI in the game.

Chowan (1-7) will take on Lander on Sunday, February 23rd for the final game in the non-conference, three-game series. First pitch is slated for 12:00pm in Greenwood, South Carolina.
