SNOW HILL, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Golf team had to battle the elements in the opening round of the 2024 Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Championship on Sunday.

INSIDE THE SCORECARDS

The team started their round off the back nine with a steady rain and continued throughout most of the day.

Mika Buchholtz leads the Hawks after the opening round with a 78.  Buchholtz started his round with a trio of pars and finished the back-nine three-over.  Buchholtz would get tripped up on the par-five second hole before finding two birdies to conclude his round.

Matthew Herberger found his groove on the second nine to finish with nine straight pars to shoot 78.

Bjoern Holt posted a 79 picking up two birdies and nine pars to complete his round.

Tyler Darnell rounded out the scoring with an 80 after starting his round with a birdie.  Jaxon Eck notched two birdies on his way to an 81.

The Hawks are three strokes out of fifth place as Young Harris and Erskine shot 312 in the opening round.

Chowan will look to improve their place in the standings as weather will be mid-60s and little chance of rain for round two on Monday.
