Week Five: Another Battle Of The Blues On Thursday Night

9/28/2022 1:22:00 PM

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Football team hits the road for the first time this season as the Hawks travel to defending CIAA Southern Division Champs, Fayetteville State, on Thursday evening.

THE CIAA SPORTS NETWORK

The CIAA has announced that football games for the 2022 season will be Pay-Per View.  With the Hawks going on the road for the first time this season, fans that want to watch the live stream will have to purchase the game to be able to watch the game.

Chowan fans that want to watch the game are encouraged to purchase the single game pass (9.99) and not the monthly pass (24.99) as it will only provide a monthly access to the institution that the site is purchased from.  For example, if fans purchase the monthly pass from Fayetteville State on Thursday, it will give the viewer access to all Fayetteville State content for the month and not the entire CIAA.

RIDING THE MOMENTUM

Chowan enters the contest with a 2-2 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the CIAA.  The Hawks are on a two-game win streak after wins over Johnson C. Smith and most recently Winston-Salem State.

The Hawks are being led by true freshman quarterback, Caleb Pierce, tossing for 424 yards and three touchdowns while limiting the turnovers to one interception since taking over the job two games ago.  Chowan is averaging 212.0 yards through the air and 189.0 yards on the ground in the two games.

The Chowan defense has been the talk of the season led by Montre Moore and Jamae Blank on the front-seven.  Moore leads the team with 49 tackles, 7.5 TFLs and 3.5 sacks.  Blank is second on the team with 31 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, and 2.5 sacks.

The secondary have been ball-hawks to start the year picking off seven passes led by Kmare Carey and Simeon Burns with three interceptions each.

AVOIDING THE BRONCO'S BUCK

Fayetteville State enters with a 2-2 overall record and a 1-1 mark in league play.  FSU started the season beating their nemesis, UNC Pembroke, before most recently falling to nationally-ranked Virginia Union in a tight affair.

The Bronco rushing attack is not like in year's past only averaging 86.8 yards per game.  The FSU backfield has been by committee along with their quarterback situation as the Broncos have used three quarterbacks.
