MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team heads up I-95 to compete in the VSU Trojan Classic over the weekend in Petersburg, Va.

VOLLEYBALL NOTES

Chowan opened up the season with a 2-1 record at the Shepherd Ram Rumble last weekend picking up wins against Alderson Broaddus and Dominican.  The Hawks battled to a 3-1 loss against 2021 NCAA Tournament selection Shepherd.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez paces the offense with 34 kills.  Madison Hall chipped in with 20 kills, while newcomers Kolleen Priest and Nia Baskin added 18 kills.

Diana Rodriguez leads the defense with 50 digs as a freshman.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS                                                                                                              

Shippensburg, tournament opening opponent, is 1-3 on the season after their trip to Clarion.

Elizabeth City State opened the season with a pair of wins before falling in their next two matches at Davis & Elkins.  Virginia State also competed in the tournament before recording a 1-3 overall record.

West Virginia State enters the tournament with a 3-1 overall record after their trip to Georgia College last weekend.
