MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team dropped a pair of league contest to Southern Wesleyan at home on Friday afternoon.

Hannah Eden paced the Hawks with four hits and two RBI. Paige Wilhelm collected three hits with two runs scored. Jesse Gentry and Kaitlin Brunelli added two hits each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 4, Southern Wesleyan 8
Chowan would strike first in the bottom of the first inning as Paige Wilhelm led off with a single to left. Wilhelm would swipe second and moved over to third on Hannah Eden's single to right. Wilhelm came around to score on Kaitlin Brunelli's RBI groundout to lead 1-0.
Southern Wesleyan took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third stringing four hits together.
The Hawks answered in the bottom of the third inning as Mya Horne reached on an infield single. Horne moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Meredith Morgan before coming around to score on Hannah Eden's single to center. Eden moved to second on the throw to the plate and to third on a wild pitch before being left stranded.
Chowan continued the rally in the fifth inning as Mya Horne drew a walk followed by a single up the middle by Paige Wilhelm. The pair moved up on a passed ball before Elizabeth Heller, pinch running for Horne, scored on a groundout to even the score at 3-all.
SWU countered with a three run frame in the sixth with three hits to open the frame to move out front 6-3. The Warriors added a pair of runs in the seventh on a home run to lead 8-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Paige Wilhelm reached on an infield single to start the rally before moving to second on a ground ball. Hannah Eden singled to center to plate Wilhelm. Kaitlin Brunelli picked up a single to left before the rally ended.
Game Two: Chowan 0, Southern Wesleyan 6
Southern Wesleyan took advantage of free passes and miscues to plate a pair of runs in the second inning without recording a hit to lead 2-0.
Chowan had a chance to plate a run in the bottom of the fourth inning as Kaitlin Brunelli singled up the middle. Elizabeth Heller, pinch runner, moved to second on a passed ball before Haleigh Reid drew a walk. The pair moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by Courtney Lamb before being left stranded.
A pair of doubles in the fifth plated a pair for the Warriors to double their lead, 4-0. SWU tacked on two more runs in the sixth to lead 6-0.
Courtney Lamb and Serena Riley drew walks in the bottom of the seventh.

Chowan wraps up their season on Saturday, April 23 against North Greenville in Conference Carolinas action. First pitch is slated for 12pm with Senior Day festivities occurring at 11:30am.
