MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team rallied in the nightcap before succumbing to top-ranked Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas action at home on Wednesday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Jesse Gentry and Haleigh Reid posted two hits each. Gentry tallied a double with two RBI. Mya Horne, Hannah Eden, Serena Riley, Kaitlin Brunelli, and Meredith Morgan added one hit each. Riley launched a home run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 1, Mount Olive 18 (five innings)
Mount Olive opened the scoring in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Chowan answered in the bottom of the inning as Meredith Morgan produced a one-out single to center. Morgan would move to second on a ground out before coming around to score on Hannah Eden's RBI single to left to knot the contest at 1-all.
UMO countered with a five run second inning to lead 6-1 and three runs in the third to push the advantage to 9-1. The Trojans used an error in the fourth inning to plate eight runs and extend their lead to 17-1.
Mount Olive tacked on a run in the fifth inning to lead 18-1. Jesse Gentry singled in the second and Serena Riley drew a walk in the fifth for the only base runners after the first inning for the Hawks.
Game Two: Chowan 3, Mount Olive 5
The Trojans scored a run in the first three innings of the contest to lead 3-0.
Serena Riley opened the bottom of the third inning with a lead-off home run to left field to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Hawks used a quick defensive inning to rally in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-out rally. Courtney Lamb drew a walk to spark the rally. Haleigh Reid singled and moved to second on the throw as Lamb moved up to third. Jesse Gentry brought home the pair with a double off the left center field fence to even the score at 3-all.
Chowan had a chance in the fifth to take the lead as Mya Horne drew a walk. Horne moved to second on a passed ball and third on a wild pitch before being left stranded.
Mount Olive took advantage of an error in the top of the sixth as the Trojans plated two runs on the next batter to lead 5-3.
Hannah Eden drew a walk in the bottom of the sixth inning before being erased on a double play. Haleigh Reid picked up a single in the inning.
Mya Horne singled in the bottom of the seventh before being left stranded at first.

Chowan wraps up the regular season with a pair of league series as the Hawks host Southern Wesleyan on Friday and North Greenville on Saturday.
