MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team earned a split in non-conference action against Emory & Henry on Friday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Haleigh Reid and Meredith Morgan led the Hawks with three hits each. Morgan tallied three RBI in the nightcap. Jesse Gentry picked up two hits including double and a home run to go with three RBI.
Hannah Eden and Kaitlin Brunelli tacked on two hits.
Megan Vincent picked up the win in the circle with eight strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 3, Emory & Henry 10
The Wasps took a three run lead in the top of the first inning on a home run. E&H pushed their lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning.
Chowan closed the gap in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hannah Eden singled before Haleigh Reid singled to center. Jesse Gentry promptly unloaded the bases with a three-run home run to left field to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Emory & Henry countered with three runs in the sixth inning before adding a pair in the seventh to take the victory 10-3.
Game Two: Chowan 8, Emory & Henry 3
The Wasps opened the contest with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.
Chowan answered as Paige Wilhelm led off with a walk and stole second. Wilhelm would come around to score on Kaitlin Brunelli's single to right. Hannah Eden and Courtney Lamb picked up singles before Eden came around to score on Haleigh Reid's single to left to even the score at 2-all.
The Hawks continued their rally in the second as Serena Riley singled to left before moving to third on Elizabeth Heller's batted ball. Meredith Morgan doubled home the pair to lead 4-2. Following a walk by Hannah Eden, Morgan scored as Courtney Lamb reached on an error.
The Blue and White added two runs in the bottom of the third as Elizabeth Heller led off the inning with a walk. Paige Wilhelm picked up a single prior to Meredith Morgan's single up the middle. Kailtin Brunelli hit a single to right to plate another run to lead 7-2.
The lead grew to 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning as Haleigh Reid singled followed by a double by Jesse Gentry. Serena Riley picked up a RBI groundout in the frame.
The Wasps tallied a run in the sixth inning to close out the scoring, 8-3.

Chowan returns to the field on Wednesday, April 20 against Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas action. First pitch is slated for 1pm.
