MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team dropped their series opener against league foe, Francis Marion, on Friday afternoon.

Ethan Whelan and Ben Bausas paced the Hawks at the plate with two hits each. Ryan Bellamy contributed a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FMU opened the scoring with a run in the first and three in the second to lead 4-0. Dallas Trevena picked up a single up the middle before being erased on a double play.
Chowan cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning as Ethan Whelan and Ben Bausas singled to lead off the inning. Tyler West drew a walk to load the bases before Whelan scored on Patrick Krack's groundout.
The Patriots tacked on a run in the third, four in the fourth, before pushing across nine runs in the fifth to lead 18-1.
FMU finished the scoring with the 27-1 victory.
