MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team were swept by Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas action at home on Wednesday afternoon.

Jesse Gentry and Haleigh Reid posted two hits each. Meredith Morgan, Hannah Eden, Courtney Lamb, Paige Wilhelm, and Cailyn Nowell posted one hit each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 0, Belmont Abbey 6
Chowan looked to put a run on the board in the bottom of the first inning as Paige Wilhelm reached on an error. Wilhelm moved to second on Meredith Morgan's sacrifice bunt. A pair of groundouts ended the threat.
Belmont Abbey would plate three unearned runs in the top of the second as the lead-off batter in the inning reached on an error.
Courtney Lamb and Jesse Gentry picked up singles in the bottom of the second but was unable to advance.
Belmont Abbey added a pair of runs in the fifth inning as the lead-off batter reached on an error. The Crusaders would lead 5-0 at the end of the frame. Another miscue in the sixth allowed the Crusaders to plate an unearned run to lead 6-0.
Game Two: Chowan 0, Belmont Abbey 3
Meredith Morgan and Hannah Eden drew walks in the first inning but was unable to plate a run.
The Crusaders used the small ball approach in the second to plate a run after a lead-off walk to lead 1-0.
The Hawks had their best chance in the bottom of the second as Haleigh Reid reached on an infield single before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt. A ground out moved the runner to third before the end of the inning.
Belmont Abbey tallied two hits in the third inning to push across a run to lead 2-0. The Crusaders added a run in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 3-0.

Chowan returns to the diamond on Friday, April 15 as the Hawks host Emory & Henry in non-conference action. First pitch is slated for 12pm.
