BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team suffered a pair of setbacks in the mountains to Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas action on Friday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Haleigh Reid, Serena Riley, and Meredith Morgan paced the Hawks with two hits each. Reid tallied a home run and four RBI.
Courtney Lamb and Paige Wilhelm added a double apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 2, Lees-McRae 13 (five innings)
Serena Riley became the first base runner for the Hawks in the top of the third on a walk before being erased on a caught stealing.
Lees-McRae opened up the contest scoring 11 of their 12 runs in the bottom of the third inning on five hits.
Chowan rallied in the top of the fourth as Paige Wilhelm drew a walk before Meredith Morgan broke up the no-hitter with a single to left center. Following a passed ball, Wilhelm scored on Kaitlin Brunelli's ground out and Morgan scored on a throwing error to cut the deficit to 12-2.
LMC added a run in the bottom of the inning to lead 13-2. Serena Riley picked up a single to left in the fifth.
Game Two: Chowan 3, Lees-McRae 7
Chowan looked to jump on the board in the top of the second as Serena Riley drew a one-out walk. Courtney Lamb doubled down the left field line before Cailyn Nowell drew a walk to load the bases. A pop-up and a strikeout ended the threat.
Lees-McRae used the momentum to plate three runs in the bottom of the second to lead 3-0.
Paige Wilhelm picked up a double in the third and Cailyn Nowell posted a single in the fourth but was unable to mount a rally.
LMC added three runs on two errors in the fourth to lead 6-0.
In the fifth, Mya Horne drew a walk to open the frame. Paige Wilhelm reached on an error before the pair moved into scoring position on Meredith Morgan's sacrifice bunt. Haleigh Reid would produce a pinch-hit three run home run to left field to cut the deficit in half, 6-3. Serena Riley picked up a single and Courtney Lamb was hit by a pitch before the rally ended.
The Bobcats tacked on a run in the sixth inning to stretch their lead to 7-3.
Meredith Morgan and Haleigh Reid picked up singles in the top of the seventh but was unable to mount a comeback.
