MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball picked up a sweep against former league foe, Shaw, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Meredith Morgan, Kaitlin Brunelli, and Hannah Eden tallied three hits each. Brunelli and Eden added three RBI. Serena Riley tallied two RBI.
Megan Vincent picked up the win in the circle tossing 5.0 innings allowing two hits and struck out eight. Bailey Wilcox tossed 7.0 innings allowing three hits and struck out a career-high 11 batters in the nightcap.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 8, Shaw 0 (five innings)
Shaw tallied their only two hits in the opening inning of the contest before Megan Vincent ended the rally with a pair of strikeouts.
Chowan opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Paige Wilhelm drew a walk and stole second. Kaitlin Brunelli singled to right to plate Wilhelm. Haleigh Reid drew a walk before Brunelli and Reid moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Hannah Eden singled to right center to plate the pair to lead 3-0.
The Hawks added to their tally in the third inning as Meredith Morgan singled to right before coming around to score on Hannah Eden's single to left to lead 4-0.
CU plated three runs off one hit in the fourth as Mya Horne, Paige Wilhelm, and Meredith Morgan drew walks to load the bases. Horne would score on a wild pitch prior to Haleigh Reid drawing a walk. Serena Riley singled to left center to plate Morgan and Wilhelm to stretch the lead to 7-0.
Chowan finished off the contest in the fifth inning as Jesse Gentry singled to right field. Mya Horne moved the pinch runner Madison Dilday to second before Dilday scored on a fielding error for the run-rule victory.
Game Two: Chowan 2, Shaw 1
The Hawks looked to plate a run in the bottom of the second as Haleigh Reid started the inning with a single to right. Reid would end up at third before being left stranded.
Chowan would break through in the third inning as Elizabeth Heller produced a one-out walk before moving to second on a wild pitch. Meredith Morgan reached on a single before Kaitlin Brunelli doubled to left to plate the pair to lead 2-0.
Shaw rallied in the fourth inning with a pair of infield singles. The Bears would score on a miscue to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Chowan would put runners in scoring position in the fourth and fifth innings, but was unable to add to their lead while holding off any comeback attempt by the Bears.
UP NEXT
Chowan was scheduled to take on Catawba on Sunday, March 6. The doubleheader against the Indians has been postponed. The Hawks will be back in action against Alderson Broaddus on Friday, March 11.
