MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team was handed a pair of setbacks in Conference Carolinas action at home against UNC Pembroke on Tuesday afternoon.

Meredith Morgan and Paige Wilhelm paced the Hawks with three hits each. Morgan registered a double in the twinbill. Hannah Eden and Courtney Lamb tallied one RBI each. Lamb and Cailyn Nowell posted two walks each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 2, UNC Pembroke 14
Chowan looked to post the opening run of the contest as Meredith Morgan and Hannah Eden picked up singles in the bottom of the first inning. A ground out pushed a runner into scoring position before a strikeout ended the threat.
UNC Pembroke used three hits, two walks, and an error to score five runs in the top of the third inning.
Chowan rallied in the bottom of the third to plate a pair of runs. Mya Horne singled down the left field line before Paige Wilhelm reached on a single up the middle. An error allowed the bases to be loaded before Hannah Eden hit a sacrifice fly to plate a run. Another error by the Braves allowed the Hawks to load the bases again prior to Courtney Lamb drawing a walk to score a run to cut the deficit to 5-2.
A pair of doubles in the fourth by UNCP pushed their lead to 6-2. The Braves added a run in the fifth and a pair of runs in the sixth to lead 9-2. UNC Pembroke finished off the contest with five runs in the seventh inning to take the victory 14-2.
Game Two: Chowan 1, UNC Pembroke 6
UNC Pembroke manufactured a run in the top of the first to lead 1-0.
Paige Wilhelm singled up the middle to lead off the bottom of the first but was left stranded.
The Braves looked to stretch their lead in the second but Paige Wilhelm threw out a runner at the plate to end the inning.
Haleigh Reid started the second with a single to left and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Courtney Lamb. Reid would be stranded in scoring position.
Kaitlin Brunelli tried to spark a rally in the bottom of the fourth inning with a lead-off double to right field, but would be left stranded after a pair of outs.
The Braves used a miscue in the fifth inning to continue their rally in the inning to plate five runs to lead 6-0.
In the bottom of the seventh, Cailyn Nowell picked up a one-out walk. An error allowed a Hawk to come around to score to break up the shutout. Paige Wilhelm added an infield single before a check-swing with a full-count ended the comeback bid for the Hawks.
