Trevena Goes Deep Twice, Hawks Falter Against Braves

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team dropped a pair against UNC Pembroke in the first two games of the series on Saturday afternoon against the Braves in Conference Carolinas action.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Emanuel Betancourt paced the Hawks at the plate with four hits and two RBI.  Dallas Trevena picked up three hits including two home runs and a double to go with three RBI.  Noah Evington tallied three hits with a home run.

Ryan Bellamy went 3-4 with a double in the nightcap.  Tyler West picked up four walks in the doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 6, UNC Pembroke 16

The first pitch of the contest left the yard as Dallas Trevena sent the pitch over the left field fence.  The second pitch would also leave the park as Noah Evington laced a shot over the right field fence for the 2-0 lead.  Tyler West and Emanuel Betancourt picked up singles to continue the rally.  Patrick Krack recorded a RBI groundout to lead 3-0.

UNC Pembroke would scratch across a run in the bottom of the first inning to cut the deficit to 3-1.  The Braves would add another run in the bottom of the third to trail 3-2.

Chowan rallied in the fourth inning as Patrick Krack led off the inning with a double down the right field line.  Carrington Williams delivered a two-out RBI single to center to plate Krack.  Ty Johnson picked up a walk before a double by Dallas Trevena to plate the pair to lead 6-2.

UNCP used two hits and an error in the bottom of the fifth inning to even the score at 6-all.  The Braves added seven runs in the sixth inning to take the lead 13-6.  UNCP added three runs in the seventh to finish off the scoring, 16-6.

Game Two: Chowan 6, UNC Pembroke 9

Chowan would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as Emanuel Betancourt opened the frame with a walk.  Patrick Krack singled to center before Betancourt came around to score on Ethan Whelan's RBI single to right.

The Braves rallied for a pair in the bottom of the second inning as a throwing error aided the inning, 2-1.

The Hawks used a two-out rally in the third inning as Noah Evington produced a walk and stole second.  Evington came around to score on Tyler West's single to left.  Emanuel Betancourt and Patrick Krack picked up singles to load the bases before Ryan Bellamy drew a full-count walk to lead 3-2.

UNCP took advantage of a pair of errors in the inning to go with three hits to regain the lead 5-3.

Dallas Trevena trimmed the deficit to 5-4 with a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.  Noah Evington picked up a single and Tyler West drew a walk after the pitching change but was left stranded.

The Braves plated two runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth to stretch their lead to 8-4.

Chowan rallied in the sixth inning as Dallas Trevena was hit-by-a-pitch to start the inning.  Caleb Karie singled up the middle prior to Trevena scoring on Emanuel Betancourt's single to right center.  Patrick Krack hit a sac fly to close the gap to 8-6.

UNCP added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth for the final tally in the contest.

Chowan wraps up the league series with UNC Pembroke on Sunday, March 20.  First pitch is slated for 1pm.
