MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team picked up a split in their home opener against Kutztown in non-conference action on Saturday.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Noah Evington and Ty Johnson led the Hawks with four hits each. Carrington Williams came up clutch for the Hawks with two hits and four RBI. Jackson Dunlap tallied two RBI.
Caleb Peterson picked up his first win in a Chowan uniform tossing two shutout innings with four strikeouts. Shane Rademacher tossed a no-decision in game one with five strong innins allowing one run off four hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 3, Kutztown 1
Kutztown would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a pair of hits and a hit-by-pitch.
The Hawks would rally in the bottom of the sixth inning as Noah Evington opened the inning with a single through the left side. Tyler West drew a walk before Carrington Williams produced a two RBI double to left field to take the lead. Jackson Dunlap singled to right to plate Williams to give the Hawks the 3-1 lead.
Caleb Peterson allowed a walk in the top of the seventh and picked up a strikeout to end the contest.
Game Two: Chowan 6, Kutztown 8
Chowan continued their momentum with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Noah Evington drew a walk and Tyler West was hit by a pitch before Carrington Williams singled up the middle to plate Evington for the opening tally in the contest.
Kutztown rallied in the top of the second inning to plate a pair on three hits.
The Hawks rallied in the bottom of the third inning to knot the score at 2-all. Noah Evington singled to right before Tyler West drew a walk. Evington and West pulled off the double steal prior to Carrington Williams hitting a sacrifice fly to center to plate Evington.
Once again, the Golden Bears answered in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs on two hits and a pair of sacrifice hits.
The lead would not hold long as Chowan answered in the bottom half of the inning to knot the score at 4-all. Joshua James drew a one-out walk before Ty Johnson picked up a single and Justin Winslow singled home James. Winslow swiped second before Noah Evington singled up the middle to plate Johnson. Winslow would get thrown out at the plate trying to score from second.
Kutztown took advantage of a miscue in the top of the fifth inning to plate four runs to give the Golden Bears an 8-4 cushion.
Chowan would close the gap to 8-6 in the bottom of the fifth as Emanuel Betancourt reached on an infield single. Carrington Williams was hit by a pitch before Caleb Karie loaded the bases with a single to right. Jackson Dunlap hit a sacrifice fly and Joshua James grounded out to score a pair.
The Hawks would have two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh before the inning ended.
