MURFREESBORO, N.C. – After waiting for two hours to pull the tarp off the field, the Chowan Softball team finished off the Hawks Softball Classic with a 6-3 comeback victory against Frostburg State on Sunday.

Bailey Wilcox followed up her career outing on Saturday with another strong performance in relief to toss 5.2 innings allowing three hits and struck out four to pick up the win.
Kaitlin Brunelli picked up two of the Hawks' five hits including her fourth home run. Meredith Morgan and Serena Riley tallied a double, while Hannah Eden registered the go-ahead triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Frostburg State jumped on the scoreboard quickly as the Bobcats led off with a walk before a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt put two runners in scoring position. A single and a passed ball allowed the Bobcats to lead 3-0.
Chowan rallied in the bottom of the first inning as Paige Wilhelm led off the inning reaching on an error. Wilhelm moved to third on a ground out by Meredith Morgan before scoring on a ground out by Kaitlin Brunelli. Haleigh Reid drew a two-out walk before coming around to score from first on Serena Riley's double to right center to cut the deficit to 3-2.
After an infield single, Bailey Wilcox entered the contest and shut the door to end the inning.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Kaitlin Brunelli led off the inning with a single to center and Serena Riley drew a walk. Hannah Eden scored Riley and the pinch running Madison Dilday as her hit to right field skipped under the glove of the fielder and to the fence for a triple.
Bailey Wilcox kept the Bobcats traffic on the bases to a minimum as the Hawks added insurance runs in the fifth inning. Meredith Morgan doubled to left field before Kaitlin Brunelli sent a two-run shot over the left center fence to lead 6-3.
The last ditch effort for Frostburg State saw a lead-off pinch hit double before picking up a strikeout, ground out, and fly out to end the contest.

Chowan continues their homestand as the Hawks host Shaw in a non-conference doubleheader on March 5. First pitch is slated for 12pm.
