GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Chowan Softball team picked up five hits as the Hawks would fall on the final day of the Bearcat Invitational on Sunday.

Hannah Eden led the Hawks with two hits. Kaitlin Brunelli tallied a home run, while Meredith Morgan and Serena Riley tallied one hit each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan 2, #3 North Georgia 11
The Nighthawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as the lead-off batter reached on an error. UNG would score on a two-out single up the middle.
Kaitlin Brunelli led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo blast to right center to even the score, 1-all.
After UNG put two runners in scoring position, Megan Vincent worked out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.
Chowan took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third as Courtney Lamb and Paige Wilhelm opened the inning with walks. Hannah Eden reached on a muffed throw before a wild pitch allowed Lamb to score.
UNG answered in the fourth inning with three runs as two hits and two walks allowed the rally, 4-2. The Nighthawks tacked on five runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 9-2.
North Georgia stretched their lead to 11-2 in the sixth inning.
Chowan looked to rally in the sixth inning as Hannah Eden singled to open the inning. Serena Riley picked up a single before being left stranded.
Chowan 0, Lander 8
In the top of the first, Meredith Morgan drew a one-out walk before Hannah Eden picked up a single. The rally would come to an end on a double-play.
Lander broke the scoreless contest in the third inning stringing three hits together. Lander would add two more hits to lead 4-0.
Meredith Morgan picked up a single in the fourth before another double-play ended the rally. The Bearcats added a run to push their advantage to 5-0.
The Bearcats finished off the contest in the sixth inning plating three runs for the 8-0 victory.

Chowan comes home to take on Elizabeth City State on Thursday, February 24 before hosting the Hawks Softball Classic with Frostburg State and Mars Hill over the weekend.
