MURFREESBORO, N.C. – In their home season opener, the Chowan Softball team picked up a pair of wins against rival Elizabeth City State on Thursday afternoon.
Game two was credited as a forfeit victory for the Hawks.

Alex Bishop collected her first win of her collegiate career tossing 4.1 innings allowing two runs (one earned) off six hits and four strikeouts.
Kaitlin Brunelli led the Hawks at the plate with a 3-3 outing with three RBI. Meredith Morgan picked up two hits and scored three runs. Paige Wilhelm, Serena Riley, Jesse Gentry, and Haleigh Reid tallied one hit each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 8, Elizabeth City State 2
Elizabeth City State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a pair of base knocks.
Chowan would rally in the bottom of the inning as Paige Wilhelm was hit by a pitch on the first pitch of the inning. Wilhelm would swipe second before coming around to score on Meredith Morgan's double to center. Morgan would score on Kaitlin Brunelli's double to right center. Serena Riley would plate a run on a single to left center to lead 3-1.
In the top of the third, the Vikings scored a run off an error before Alex Bishop worked out of the jam with only one run scoring, 3-2.
Chowan would produce three runs in the bottom of the inning as Meredith Morgan led off the inning with a single up the middle. Kaitlin Brunelli singled to left before Serena Riley drew a walk to load the bases. Jesse Gentry hit a pop up down the right field line allowing Morgan to score on the sacrifice fly. Haleigh Reid singled to left to clear the bases for the 6-2 advantage.
The Hawks tacked on the final two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Paige Wilhelm reached on a bunt single. Meredith Morgan would reach before both runners scored on Kaitlin Brunelli's double down the left field line, 8-2.
ECSU put two runners on in the top of the fifth before loading the bases with one out. Bailey Wilcox pitched in relief grabbing a double-play to end the threat.
Jesse Gentry led off the bottom of the fifth with a double before the contest was called as the Vikings failed to be able to field the required nine players to play.
