GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Chowan Softball team battled through adversity on day one of the Bearcat Invitational against nationally-ranked North Georgia and host Lander on Saturday.

Haleigh Reid paced the Hawks with three hits and three RBI. Paige Wilhelm and Meredith Morgan posted two hits each.
Jesse Gentry recorded a home run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan 7, #3 North Georgia 15
Meredith Morgan notched a double with one out to start the contest but was left stranded in scoring position.
North Georgia took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second inning as a throwing error aided the rally.
Courtney Lamb nearly evened the score in the top of the third inning as the ball was caught on the warning track in left center.
The Nighthawks took advantage of a miscue in the third to plate a pair of runs to lead 3-0. UNG broke the game open in the fourth inning as seven hits and two errors led to a nine run frame to lead 12-0.
After a pitching change by UNG, the Hawks mounted a rally as Jesse Gentry led off the fifth with a solo home run to left field. Haleigh Reid and Mya Horne drew walks to prompt another change. Courtney Lamb loaded the bases with a walk before Meredith Morgan and Hannah Eden picked up singles to cut the deficit to 12-4 warranting another pitching change. Kaitlin Brunelli was hit by a pitch to load the bases again before Serena Riley hit a ball up the middle and Haleigh Reid singled to center to plate a pair, 12-7.
UNG closed the contest out in the sixth inning scoring three runs off three errors to take the victory 15-7.
Chowan 2, Lander 7
Lander opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning plating four runs of six hits and a pair of Chowan miscues.
The Hawks would pick up a run in the top of the second inning as Serena Riley posted a one-out walk followed by Jesse Gentry being hit-by-a-pitch. Haleigh Reid singled up the middle to plate a run, 4-1.
The Bearcats rallied in the bottom of the second inning to increase their lead to 7-1 on two hits and an error.
Chowan had a chance to plate a run in the fifth inning as Courtney Lamb produced a two-out single. Paige Wilhelm doubled to right center to put runners in scoring position.
Madison Dilday led off the seventh inning with a double to left before moving up to third on a wild pitch. Haleigh Reid doubled home Dilday to close out the scoring.

Chowan wraps up play at the Bearcat Invitational on Sunday, February 20 as the Hawks will take on North Georgia at 10am followed by Lander at 2:30pm.
