Warriors Hand Hawks Loss In Home Finale

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team dropped their third straight in a 75-67 loss to Southern Wesleyan in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Christian Koonce led the team with 20 points.  Jay Estime collected 13 points and seven rebounds, while Marcus Elliott chipped in with 12 points.

Xavier Young recorded seven points and three charges drawn off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

After the opening bucket by Southern Wesleyan, Jay Estime knocked down a triple.  Estime connected from the floor to keep pace with the Warriors.  RJ Wilson added a layup to lead 10-9.

SWU regained the lead 12-10 before Marcus Elliott scored the next 12 points for the Hawks to hand the lead back to the Hawks, 22-21.

The Warriors went on an 8-0 run before Donavon Martin posted a layup and RJ Wilson added a jumper.  Chase Barnett posted the final tally for the Hawks as Chowan went into the locker room down 36-28.

Second Half:

Jay Estime knocked down a triple as SWU extended their lead to double-figures, 42-31.  RJ Wilson connected from the floor prior to Xavier Young knocking down a three-pointer and Christian Koonce scoring a jumper in the post.

Christian Koonce picked up four points from the stripe and a pair of buckets to cut the deficit to five, 52-47.  Xavier Young added a pair from the stripe before Donavon Martin added a jumper.

Christian Koonce scored an old-fashioned three-point play and a jumper before the Warriors pushed their advantage back to double-figures, 68-57.  Koonce continued to work at the low block picking up two more baskets and finishing off the and-one.

The Warriors matched the baskets at the other end as Cheick Traore added a putback layup and Jay Estime hit a triple in transition for the final tallies for the Hawks.

UP NEXT

Chowan hits the road to take on Belmont Abbey and North Greenville in a Conference Carolinas weekend starting on Friday, February 18.  Tip-off is slated for 7pm on Friday.
