Chowan Softball Suffers Pair Of Losses To Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, TENN. – Runs were hard to come by for the Chowan Softball team as the Hawks dropped their doubleheader on the road against Tusculum on Saturday afternoon.

Meredith Morgan led the team with three hits including a double and two RBI.  Serena Riley, Mya Horne, and Paige Wilhelm collected two hits each.  Wilhelm added a triple and a RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 0, Tusculum 4

Meredith Morgan produced the first hit in the contest in the first inning before being wiped away on a double-play.

Tusculum took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a RBI groundout following a walk and a pair of singles.

Mya Horne singled in the third and Kaitlin Brunelli doubled in the fourth but were left on the bases.

The Pioneers added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth with three runs off four hits to lead 4-0.

Meredith Morgan singled up the middle in the sixth inning before Bailey Wilcox worked out of a jam in the bottom half of the inning to keep the score at-bay.

Game Two: Chowan 3, Tusculum 9

Chowan would load the bases to start the first inning as Hannah Eden and Serena Riley picked up singles and Kaitlin Brunelli drew a walk.  The Hawks would leave the bases loaded.

Tusculum rallied in the bottom of the inning scoring three runs off three hits.

The Hawks answered in the top of the second as Haleigh Reid reached on an error to start the inning.  Mya Horne singled and moved to second on the misplay in the outfield.  Paige Wilhelm singled up the middle to plate Reid before Meredith Morgan doubled home a pair to even the score at 3-all.

The Pioneers regained the lead in the bottom of the third after loading the bases on a walk and two singles.  A RBI sac fly pushed across the go-ahead run, 4-3.

Tusculum used five hits in the fourth inning to push their advantage to 9-3 with a five run frame.  Paige Wilhelm registered a two-out triple in the seventh for the final hit in the contest for the Hawks.

UP NEXT

Chowan will look to get into the win column next weekend as the Hawks travel to Greenwood, S.C. to compete in the Bearcat Invitational on February 19-20.  The Hawks will take on North Georgia and Lander in a pair of contests.
