Rademacher Deals, Hawks Split With Cardinals

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team split the opening day of their series with Wheeling in non-conference action on Saturday despite outhitting the Cardinals 29-12.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Ty Johnson, Patrick Krack, and Tyler West led the team with five hits each.  Krack recorded a double and a triple, while West added a double, a home run, and six RBI.

Justin Winslow, Ryan Bellamy, and Emanuel Betancourt posted three hits each.  Betancourt produced two home runs and six RBI.  Bellamy tallied two doubles.

Shane Rademacher picked up the win on the hill in game one tossing a complete game with career-high 13 strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 13, Wheeling 3

Shane Rademacher struck out three of the first six batters to start the contest.  Chowan opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as Carrington Williams worked a one-out walk.  Patrick Krack posted a double to right center before Justin Winslow tallied a sac fly.  Ryan Bellamy hit a double to right center to lead 2-0.

Following a shutdown inning by Shane Rademacher with three punchouts, the Hawks added a tally on Emanuel Betancourt's two-run shot to left field to lead 4-0.  Rademacher struck out the next three in the fourth as the Hawks produced five runs in the fourth to lead 9-0.

Ty Johnson started the inning with a one-out single.  Dallas Trevena doubled home Johnson before Noah Evington reached on an infield single.  Tyler West singled down the line to score Trevena before Emanuel Betancourt hit a three-run home run to right center.

The Cardinals picked up their first hit with one out in the fifth inning but was left stranded.

Justin Winslow was hit by a pitch to start the fifth and moved to third on a passed ball and wild pitch.  Ryan Bellamy drew a walk prior to Ty Johnson picking up a RBI single.  Noah Evington loaded the bases for Tyler West to produce a two RBI single.  Evington would score on a wild pitch to lead 13-0.

Wheeling would break up the shutout in the top of the seventh on four hits before Shane Rademacher capped off his performance with a strikeout.

Game Two: Chowan 9, Wheeling 10

Chowan took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as Patrick Krack singled to center with one-out.  Krack would swipe second and move to third on an error before Justin Winslow doubled to right center for the opening tally of the contest.  Ryan Bellamy singled to left to plate Winslow in the inning.

Wheeling used three hits and a walk in the third inning to take a 3-2 lead.  Chowan would answer in the bottom of the inning as Tyler West doubled down the left field line.  Emanuel Betancourt singled to plate West before Patrick Krack singled with two outs to plate Betancourt for the 4-3 advantage.

The Cardinals took advantage of two errors and two hit by pitches to regain the lead 6-4.  Wheeling pushed their lead to 7-4 with a run in the fifth.

Chowan trimmed the deficit in the bottom of the inning as Carrington Williams singled up the middle with two outs and stole second.  Patrick Krack delivered an infield single and Justin Wilson singled to right center for the RBI.

Wheeling used a home run and a triple to add a cushion in the sixth inning to lead 9-5.

The Hawks continued to fight back as Ty Johnson opened the sixth with a single.  Dallas Trevena singled before Tyler West hit a three-run home run to left center to cut the deficit to 9-8.

The Cardinals used another pair of errors in the seventh inning to plate an insurance run to lead 10-8.

Chowan would not go away quietly as Ryan Bellamy doubled to right to spark the rally.  Ty Johnson singled to right to put runners on the corners before a sac fly by Dallas Trevena scored the pinch running James Cottingham from third.  Johnson moved to third on a passed ball before being left stranded to end the contest.

Chowan wraps up their series with Wheeling on Sunday, February 13.  First pitch has been moved up to 11am in preparation for inclement weather.
