Chowan Swimming Grabs Four All-Conference Selections

KINGSPORT, TENN. – Day two of the 2021 Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships was productive for the Chowan Swimming program picking up an individual championship and three other all-conference selections on Friday.

INSIDE THE LANES

Ashley Mayes took home the championship in the 100 fly after breaking the school and conference record in the event during the prelims.

Jersey Razzano and Igor Proszynski tallied Third Team All-Conference selections in the 1000 Free.

The Chowan women's 800 free relay earned Third Team All-Conference honots.

HOW IT HAPPENED

200 Medley Relay:

Chowan Women finished fourth with a time of 1:51.25.  Ashley Mayes, Zorey Sargent, Jasmine Gibson, and Grace Arredondo swam for the Hawks.

For the men, Christian Oleaga, Marshall Stevens, Andrew Simmons, and Tristan Stinson posted a fourth place finish with a time of 1:38.71.  The relay was just off the pace the 2020 relay posted for a school record.

1000 Free:

Jersey Razzano swam to a school record in the prelims and improved on that time with a time of 11:01.11 to finish third overall and claim Third Team All-Conference honors.  Marissa Mann finished eighth overall.

Igor Proszynski earned a Third Team All-Conference selection finishing third in the event with a time of 10:02.58.

400 IM:

After improving on his school record time during the prelims (4:24.04), Lucas Pels improved even more to post a time of 4:22.21 to finish 10th overall.  David Clark finished behind Pels with a time of 4:35.56 for the second best time in program history.

100 Fly:

Ashley Mayes recorded a school and conference record in the event during the prelims with a time of 56.24 and just missed the NCAA Qualifying "B" standard time (56.04).  Mayes would follow up her time with a championship pace with a time of 56.50.

Brinna Houlahan posted the seventh best time in program history with a time of 1:04.15.

Justin Lough posted the second best time in program history with a time of 52.87 in the event.  Lough finished eighth overall.

200 Free:

Grace Arredondo finished sixth overall with a time of 2:03.33.  Atar Idrissi finished 10th with a time of 2:10.43.

100 Breast:

Zorey Sargent finished first in the "B" finals with a time of 1:10.97 and ninth overall.  Jeleah Delancy posted a time of 1:14.49 and MacKenzie Lucy posted a time of 1:15.50.

Marshall Stevens posted a time of 1:02.20 to finish 11th overall.  Kyle Sheridan touched the wall with a time of 1:13.68.

100 Back:

James Cameron posted a time of 56.12 to finish ninth overall.  Andrew Simmons (58.39) and Christian Oleaga (58.69) posted the third and fourth best times in program history respectively.

Anquniece Wheeler posted the eighth best time in program history in the event with a time of 1:07.34 to finish 12th overall.

800 Free Relay:

The Women earned Third Team All-Conference honors as Grace Arredondo, Zorey Sargent, Jersey Razzano, and Ashley Mayes posted a time of 8:12.14.

Igor Proszynski, Andrew Simmons, Marshall Stevens, and Christian Oleaga posted a fifth place finish with a time of 7:41.56.

UP NEXT

Chowan will wrap up the final day of the Conference Carolinas Championships on Saturday, February 27 with prelims at 10am and finals at 5pm.
