WILSON, N.C. – The Chowan University men's and women's swimming teams competed at Barton College on Saturday afternoon, delivering strong performances across the board. Several Hawks earned first-place finishes, while the men's team claimed the overall victory over the Bulldogs to cap off an impressive day in the pool.

The meet opened with the women's 200-yard medley relay, where the Hawks finished with a time of 1:59.35 to collect four points toward the team total. The men followed suit in their 200-yard medley relay, touching the wall at 1:39.02 to also secure four points.
In event three, Emma Rooney captured first place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a strong time of 11:34.37, earning nine points for the women. On the men's side, Michael Grenier mirrored her success, claiming first in the same event with a time of 10:38.22 and adding nine points for the Hawks.
The momentum continued in event six, as Dimitrije Markovic and Quintin Mitchell finished first and second respectively in the men's 200-yard freestyle, posting times of 1:52.10 and 2:06.66.
Sara Turanjanin made her mark in the 100-yard backstroke, securing first place with a time of 1:03.61 to add another nine points for the women, while Hasnae Idrissi contributed three points in the same event. Vanja Romic followed with a commanding win in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:12.06 and earning nine points for Chowan.
At the halfway mark, the Hawks picked up seven more points in the 50-yard freestyle, as Robert Liz Cabrera and Stefan Reedy both placed in the top three. Cabrera continued his standout performance with another first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, while teammates Mitchell and Christopher Goode added depth to secure 15 total points for the men.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Elizabeth Waltz placed second with a time of 3:02.81, earning four points for the women. On the men's side, Markovic and Grenier once again dominated, taking first and second in the same event to add 13 points to the team's total, while Lina Danna added four points for the women.
The Hawks continued their strong form in the men's 100-yard butterfly, with Mitchell and Goode earning second- and third-place finishes for seven points. In the 100-yard individual medley, Aleksei Belolipetskii captured first with a time of 2:01.53, while Rooney contributed another four points for the women with her time of 2:26.44.
The meet concluded with the 200-yard freestyle relays, where the women's team of Romic, Turanjanin, Idrissi, and Danna finished second at 1:47.13, earning four points. The men sealed the day with a first-place finish, as Cabrera, Belolipetskii, Markovic, and Grenier touched the wall at 1:29.87, earning 11 points to push Chowan past the Bulldogs and secure the overall victory.
