Box Score BELMONT, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team was unable to claim victory in a tough five set match against Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday.

Madison Hall paced the Hawks with 12 kills, while Anixa Rosa-Martinez added 11 kills and Chloe Putnam produced 10 kills.
Ciara Ortega recorded her third double-double of the season with 22 assists and 10 digs. Natalia Vega-Aponte led the defense with 23 digs. Katie Houston (17 digs) and Hadley Prince (16 digs) chipped in defensively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Chowan posted a .297 attack percentage in the set with 15 kills to lead 23-22. Belmont Abbey rallied for the final three points to take the set.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted six kills in the frame. Madison Hall chipped in with four kills.
Second Set:
In the second set, the Hawks used five service errors by the Crusaders to take the 26-24 set victory. Both teams were square at 24-all before a pair of errors allowed the Hawks to even the match at 1-all.
Haydon Ahlers and Madison Hall posted three kills each. Chloe Putnam and Nyah Powers contributed two kills each.
Third Set:
The Hawks' offense was slowed to seven kills in the set as Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Anamarie Colon-Calero notched two kills each in the 25-18 set three loss.
Fourth Set:
Chowan would rally in the fourth set before 10 kills along with three services aces and three blocks to take the 25-23 set win and force a fifth set.
Chloe Putnam and Madison Hall contributed three kills each. Katie Houston, Anamarie Colon-Calero, and Ciara Ortega notched an ace. Haydon Ahlers and Colon-Calero teamed up for a block to cap off the six point run to end the set.
Fifth Set:
The fifth set required extra points as a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez evened the set at 14-all. The Crusaders posted the final two points to take the victory.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted two kills, while Madison Hall, Chloe Putnam, Nyah Powers, and Anamarie Colon-Calero notched one kill in the fifth set.

Chowan will host Elizabeth City State in non-conference action on Tuesday, October 26 at 6pm. The match will be the Hawks' annual Dig Pink contest.
