GAME NOTES    Chowan vs Shaw

"TV" GAME/NCAA SHOWCASE GAME

Chowan football will be "broadcasted" through social media platforms by the NCAA Division II.  This is the first game "broadcasted" since October 2, 2010 when the Hawks defeated Virginia Union 35-34.

The contest will be "aired" on the Chowan Sports Network in conjunction with the CIAA Sports Network.  The broadcast can also be found on the NCAA Division II, Chowan Athletics, and The CIAA Facebook pages, as well as, the NCAA Division II Twitter.

TAKE AWAYS FROM GAME TWO

After posting 417 total yards against UVa-Wise, the Chowan offense exploded for 418 yards rushing on their way to 677 yards of total offense.  Bryce Witt threw for seven touchdowns and added one on the ground.  Imeek Watkins caught five touchdown passes.  Deshaun Wethington stepped up and rushed for 194 yards on 12 carries.

Defensively, the "inexperience" looked more like a veteran team as the defense picked off ABU four times and blocked a punt.  The young defense continues to play well holding the Battlers to 388 yards of total offense.

RECORD UPDATING

Last week's win over Alderson Broaddus changed the record books.  The Chowan rushing attack posted a program best 418 yards rushing.  Bryce Witt threw for a single-game record 7 touchdowns.  Imeek Watkins hauled in a single-game record five touchdowns.

Bryce Witt tied Cameron Stover for most passing touchdowns in a career with 53.  Witt is second all-time in career passing yards sitting behind Stover (5,865) with 5,121.  Witt sits with 885 yards rushing and can become the first QB to rush for 1,000 yards.

NCAA DIVISION II STATISTICS

Bryce Witt's seven touchdown passes ranks at the top for most touchdown passes in NCAA this season.  Witt is 3rd in the country in TD passes (7), 5th in passing efficiency (191.4), and 3rd in Points responsible for (54).

SHOWCASING THE SHAW BEARS
Shaw enters the contest winless on the year with a 0-2 record.  The Bears had victory blocked away from them against Bowie State in a non-conference game last week as Bowie State blocked a punt and later scored to take the win, 26-21, away from Shaw.

Torrin Campbell, a Kentucky State transfer, leads the offense with 422 yards and three touchdowns as the signal caller.  Vidal Woodruff is listed as the starter but as played sparingly completing 4-of-8 passes for 43 yards.

Sidney Gibbs gets the offense moving with 130 yards on the ground on 22 carries.  Gibbs along with Daniel Bender is the primary targets in the pass game.  Marquis Gorham is the big play threat with 144 yards on six receptions.  Bender has found the endzone twice.

Defensively, Devon Hunt and Jaleel Scroggins, both All-CIAA recipients last season, lead the team with 18 and 16 tackles respectively.
