MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The wait for Chowan Volleyball has been trimmed to hours instead of days as the Hawks travel to UNC Pembroke for their delayed season opener.
Chowan was originally scheduled to host the Janet Collins tournament over the weekend but was canceled because of Hurricane Dorian.

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan posted an 11-17 overall record under the direction of Jackie Buchanan.  Now, in her second season, the Hawks have a bunch of new faces, returning three players from last season: Sydney Hiner, Kimberly Evans, and Alyssa Humes.
Hiner was named CIAA Second Team and CIAA Rookie Team last season posting 149 kills, 301 digs and 43 service aces.  Evans and Humes combined for 93 digs in limited action.
ATTACKING THE BRAVES
UNC Pembroke has four matches under their belt in 2019 with a 2-2 record.  The Braves started the season with two five set losses before picking up straight sets wins over Fayetteville State and UVa-Wise last weekend.
The Braves went 10-21 last season and picked up a contested 3-0 win against the Hawks last season.  Shannon Skyrd and Ashley Caesar lead the Braves with 34 and 32 kills respectively while the team hits .215.
