MURFREESBORO, N.C. - After spending the last 12 season as an assistant coach for the Chowan University football program, Vice President for Athletics, Patrick Mashuda, has announced Mark Hall as the team's next head coach. Hall becomes the 10th head coach in the football program's history, the eighth in four-year program history, and the third in NCAA D2 program history.
"We are excited to name Mark Hall our next head coach," stated Patrick Mashuda. "The program will be in great hands moving forward. His experiences as a top assistant at both Urbana and here at Chowan will lend itself worthy in the continued development of the Chowan football program."
Hall led the team the last four games of the season and posted a 2-2 record with wins over Elizabeth City State University and Lincoln University. The two losses came against a Virginia Union program that was receiving votes in the national polls and a Virginia State program that is highly ranked in the regional polls. Both losses came by one score, 45-38 and 28-21 respectively.
While at Chowan, Hall took an anemic offense averaging 293.5 yards per game in 2007 and turned it into one of the best offenses in the CIAA on an annual basis including the past two seasons posting a top-15 offense in the country finishing the regular season sixth (511.7) last season and 13th (475.6) this season.
Hall helped produce both CIAA Offensive Players of the Year: CJ Westler (2009) and Robert Holland (2013). In addition to Westler and Holland, Hall helped 20 other Hawks to All-CIAA distinction overseeing the quarterbacks, receivers, and running backs.
Prior to Chowan, Mark started his collegiate coaching at his alma mater, Urbana, in 2005 and was promoted to Co-Offensive Coordinator in 2007.
"I am unbelievably grateful to our University President, Dr. Kirk Peterson, Athletics Director Patrick Mashuda, and the entire Chowan Community for the opportunity to serve as the Head Football Coach. We have a great group of young men within our program and I look forward to leading them on and off the field for many years to come," said Hall.
