MURFREESBORO, N.C. – For the third time in program history, the Chowan Women's Tennis Team appears in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships.
The Hawks earned the No. 7 seed in the Southeast Region after claiming the program's first-ever Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship last weekend. Chowan appeared in the Atlantic Regionals in 2012 and 2014 earning the CIAA Tournament Title.

Chowan will face No. 2 seeded Wingate in the opening round of the NCAA Southeast Regional. Georgia College (No. 3) and North Georgia (No. 6) will play at 1pm.
The winners of each match will face each other on Sunday, April 29 at 11am for the right to advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Sweet 16.
HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan is riding a 16 match win streak to their third straight 20+ win season at 20-3 on the year.
Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, Polina Novachuk, leads the team with a 20-4 singles record and 21-4 in doubles action this season. Partner, Cynthia Carrier, is 23-3 in doubles this season including a 20-3 mark together.
Lenka Styblova and Angelique Gouin have posted 19 and 18 wins respectively. Styblova has won 16 straight matches including the Conference Carolinas Championship deciding match.
The duo of Hanna Tarlouskaya and Victoria Smolchenkova lead the Hawks with a 21-5 overall record in No. 2 doubles action.
WINGATE WORDS
Wingate enters the Southeast Regionals with a 20-4 overall mark after falling in the South Atlantic Conference Championship match.
The Bulldogs No. 1 singles, Michela Verpelli, is 16-2 on the season and winner of 13 straight matches. Verpelli was named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year.
