BELMONT, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team dropped a pair of closely contested matches against North Greenville and Belmont Abbey on the road Saturday.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Sydney Hiner and Kayla Gates posted 16 kills on the afternoon. Hiner posted 10 kills against Belmont Abbey.
Breona Young recorded 11 kills in the loss to North Greenville.
Micayla Pope notched a double-double with 25 assists and 12 digs in the loss to Belmont Abbey. Pope tallied 18 assists and eight digs against NGU.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan 0, North Greenville 3
Chowan led the match early as Milica Vejnovic posted a kill to put the Hawks up 9-6.
Both teams traded points and the lead midway through the set as NGU posted four straight points to lead 23-18.
NGU took the set 25-20 after a pair of errors.
In the second set, Chowan led 6-2 as Sydney Hiner and Breona Young posted a kill each. NGU rallied to knot the score at 7,8,9,10, and 11.
Milica Vejnovic rallied the Hawks to regain the lead 14-13. The teams would swap points again in the set as a kill by Breona Young evened the set at 24-all.Â
Back-to-back kills by NGU took the set 26-24.
NGU opened the third set to 18-12 following a kill by Breona Young. NGU cruised to a 25-17 set victory for the match.
Chowan 1, Belmont Abbey 3
Attack errors helped the Hawks to a 9-1 lead as Milica Vejnovic and Kayla Gates posted a kill in the run.
Belmont Abbey would counter with a 13-0 run to take the lead 16-11 and force a timeout.
Chowan rallied to close the gap to 22-19 as Sydney Hiner and Courtney O'Keefe picked up kills.
BAC took the opening set 25-20.
In the second set, Milica Vejnovic, Courtney O'Keefe, and Kayla Gates gave the Hawks a quick 5-0 lead. Vejnovic and O'Keefe teamed up for a block to lead 7-2.
Belmont Abbey rallied to close the gap to 12-11 before a service ace by Sydney Hiner pushed the lead to 17-11.
Chowan continued to push forward taking the set 25-14.
Belmont Abbey opened the third set on a 10-5 run before doubling up the Hawks again at 14-7.
Back-to-back kills by Sydney Hiner and a kill by Kayla Gates narrowed the gap to 14-13. Gates tallied another kill to close the gap again to 17-16.
BAC pulled away in the set following two errors by the Hawks and took the set 25-19.
In the fourth and final set, the Crusaders led 14-5 to force a timeout. BAC pushed their advantage to 20-6.
Chowan rallied with eight straight points as Kayla Gates recorded three kills. Belmont Abbey found the final point to take the set and match.
