MURFREESBORO, N.C.- The Chowan Volleyball team opens CIAA league play on this weekend at the CIAA Round-Up in Winston-Salem, N.C. hosted by Winston-Salem State.

The Hawks will face St. Augustine's and Winston-Salem State on Saturday at 12pm and 6pm respectively.  Chowan will wrap up play in a must-see match as the Hawks will take on defending CIAA Champion and preseason number one, Shaw, at 11am on Sunday.

HAWKS PROFILE

Chowan looks to right the ship after starting off the season 0-6.  The Hawks are led offensively by Courtney O'Keefe with 35 kills.  Karisa Patterson and Brittany Tschida lead the club with seven and six service aces respectively.

FALCONS FILE

St. Augustine's opens the season at the CIAA Round-Up.  The Falcons ended their 2016 season with a 9-14 overall record.  Chowan defeated the Falcons 3-0 in St. Augustine's final match of the season at the CIAA Championships.

SAU returns Shakera Hall, who was named to the Preseason All-CIAA squad.

RAMS REPORT

Winston-Salem State comes into the Round-Up with a 3-3 overall record and has won three of their last four matches.

Mia Herrod and Jasmine Smith lead the charge for the Rams topping 60+ kills to start the season.

BEARS BIO

Shaw is coming off the 2016 CIAA Championship and enters the Round-Up with an impressive 7-2 overall record.

Saraya Klink leads the way for the Bears with 78 kills while teammate Tapanga Moten chips in with 65 kills.

SERIES HISTORY

The Hawks come into the match with a 22-2 record against SAU.  Chowan is on a 13-match win streak and hasn't loss since 2011 against the Falcons.

Chowan holds a 7-5 series lead with the Rams taking the last two meetings. 

The Hawks lead Shaw 11-2 in the series, but the Bears have taken the last two meetings.  The last three meetings have been decided by a fifth set.
