FARMVILLE, VA- The Chowan University women's tennis team fell 6-1 to Longwood University on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks drop 13-8 on the season while the Lancers improve their overall record to 5-12 with the win.

In doubles play, Polina Novachuk and Victoria Smolchenkova fell 6-2 to Fallon Burger and Jamie Breunig in the number one doubles play. Paloma Alatorre and Marija Venta beat Cynthia Carrier and Angelique Gouin 6-1 in the number two doubles while, Mason Thomas and Anna Pelak picked up the third doubles match 6-4 over Roxana Daneshjoo and Anna Makhneva securing the win for the Lancers.

Following the Division I scoring format, Longwood led Chowan 1-0 into singles play.

Novachuk grabbed the lone win for the Hawks 7-5, 7-6 (2-7), 1-0 (10-8) over Venta . Breunig won the number two singles match 6-1, 6-0 over Smolchenkova while, Carrier dropped the number three singles position 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) to Pelak. In the number four singles, Gouin fell 6-2, 6-1 to Alatorre. Thomas grabbed the number five singles match for Longwood after retirement from Makhneva. Longwood's Burger handed a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Franca Pacelli in the number sixth singles match.

The Hawks will return to home court on Sunday, April 9^th for a doubleheader against Bowie State University. Match time is set for 12:00pm and 2:00pm at the Rose Family Tennis Complex.
