Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC - The Chowan University men's lacrosse team suffered a 20-16 loss to Lees-McRae College in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks played their final home match of the season and have just one regular season match left on the schedule. They fell to 1-11 overall and 1-5 in league play while the Bobcats improved their overall record to 4-7 and 2-5 in the league.
Anthony Alfonso, Jr. led the offensive efforts for the Hawks after he posted six goals and handed out three assists on the day. After trailing 7-3 at the end of the first quarter, the Hawks battled back with five second quarter goals to cut the Bobcat lead to 13-8 at the half. The Hawks went on to outscore Lees-McRae 8-7 in the second half but their comeback attempt fell short.
Chowan posted 53 team shots and were 24-25 in clear attempts. They collected 28 ground balls and won 15 faceoffs.
John Crandall posted 21 saves in the net for Chowan.
Jacob Mitchell found the back of the net four times while teammate
Nick Lavoy posted three scores and four assists.
Austin Lee and
Noah Holloway scored two and one goals respectively.
Ivor Corlette handed out two assists and Holloway had three assists.
The Hawks will travel to Belmont Abbey College in their final regular season match of their inaugural season on April 22nd. Match time is set for 1:00pm in Belmont, North Carolina.
