SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV- The Chowan University women's tennis team concluded the regular season with a 6-3 win over West Liberty on Saturday afternoon.  The Hawks, No.9 in the Atlantic Region, improve to 22-5 on the year with the victory while the Hilltoppers, No. 7 in the Atlantic Region, slide to 13-9 on the year.

In doubles play, Polina Novachuk/Victoria Smolchenkova topped Raquel Cabero/Rhiannon James 8-2 to give Chowan an early lead.  Anna Makhneva/Roxana Daneshjoo defeated Ekaterina Pinchuk/Ana Berbel 8-4 in number three doubles play before Emily Dawson/Alaina Pauley outlasted Cynthia Carrier/Angelique Gouin in number two doubles competition. 

Holding a 2-1 lead heading into singles play, Smolchenkova picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win in number two singles while Carrier edged James 7-5, 6-1 in number three singles play.  De Backre and Gouin both fell to their opponents in the number five and four spots, respectively.  Novachuk outlasted Cabero in number one singles play (4-6, 6-2, 6-2).  Makhneva edged Puga in tiebreaker play in number six singles to secure the 6-3 win for  Chowan. 

The Hawks head to Raleigh, North Carolina April 28^th-30^th to compete in the CIAA Tournament.  Additional details will be released as they become available.
