MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's tennis team fell short in a 5-4 decision against Longwood University on Monday afternoon. The Hawks move to 16-5 on the season with Monday's loss while the Lancers improve to 10-13 on the year with the victory.
In doubles play,

Victoria Smolchenkova teamed up for an 8-3 victory over Fallon Burger/Isis Gill-Reid.

Anna Makhneva fell to their opponents 8-1 and 8-3 in the second and third doubles positions, respectively.
In singles competition, Smolchenkova, Goin, and
Jessica De Backre suffered setbacks in the number two, four, and five positions, respectively. Makhneva topped Tess Willis 6-4, 6-3 in number six singles while Carrier outlasted Gill-Reid 7-6 (4-0), 6-3. Novachuk outlasted Burger in tiebreaker play in the number one position, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit as the Hawks suffered the 5-4 setback.
Chowan returns to action on April 13
th as the Hawks play host to Virginia State University and Fayetteville State University in CIAA play.
