Box Score RALEIGH, NC- The Chowan University softball team earned their fifth straight win on Sunday afternoon in a 4-3 victory over Millersville University. The Hawks improve to 9-7 on the season with the victory while the Marauders move to 3-3 on the year.
The Hawks struck first in the contest, plating two runs in the bottom of the first using an RBI double by
Tina White and a groundout by
Danielle Baccus.
Millersville answered back with two runs of their own in the third behind Mandy Hammond's two-run single. Kelsey Campbell led off the top of the fourth with a solo homerun to push the Marauders ahead 3-2. In the bottom of the sixth,
Rachel Clark belted a solo homerun to knot the score 3-3.
Chowan's defense kept Millersville off the scoreboard in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for a walk-off win for the Hawks. With two outs and
Kris Neal at second base, an RBI single by
Haley Cox gave the Hawks all they would need to secure the 4-3 win.
Kayla Robins picked up the win on the mound; her third in as many outings. She threw all seven innings in the win, surrendering three runs (three earned) off of seven hits. Robins collected ten strikeouts in the victory.
Cassidy Pinchorski threw 5.2 innings for Millersville. She gave-up three runs (three earned) off of four hits while striking out three batters. Brianna Andraos entered the game in-relief and was credited with the loss. She surrendered one run in the setback.
White led the Hawks at the plate with two hits while Clark, Cox,
Kennsey Epley and Neal each tallied one hit for the Chowan Blue and White. Campbell paced Millersville with three hits in the setback.
The Hawks return to action on March 8
th as Chowan travels to take on St. Andrews University. First pitch is slated for 1:00pm.
