Boone’s No-Hitter Highlights Opening Day at Conference Carolinas Championship

DUNCAN, S.C. – The Chowan Softball team opened the Conference Carolinas Softball Championship with a strong start, securing a win over No. 12 seed Shorter in the play-in round on Friday afternoon at Tyler River Park.

In game one, pitcher Haileigh Boone tossed a no-hitter and reached a career milestone of 150 strikeouts for the Hawks.

In their second game of the day, the Hawks fell to No. 4 seed Mount Olive in round one of the Conference Carolinas Softball Championship.

In game one, Haileigh Boone threw a complete-game no-hitter for the Hawks, striking out five batters.

The Hawks got on the board in the third when Mckenzie Misenheimer launched a three-run home run to center field, bringing in Ava Mizell and Alexis Denham to take a 3-0 lead.

The offense exploded in the sixth inning, adding five more runs. Lenita Bryson started things with an RBI single to score Misenheimer, followed by Kaitlyn Springle's single to bring in Bryson. Kyndal Hopkins then singled to left, driving in Calliope James.

Hope Soria contributed with an RBI fielder's choice, scoring Springle, before Kyra Helton capped the inning with a single to right center, bringing home Hopkins for the final run of the frame.

In Game Two, Mizell led the charge for the Hawks with a hit and two runs scored, while Denham, James, and Bryson each chipped in with a base hit of their own.

Makenzi Curry got the start in the circle for Game Two and was charged with the loss. Abby Rutledge provided 3.1 innings in relief, and Alex Bishop came on to close out the game.

The Hawks will be back in action at Tyler River Park tomorrow, Saturday, April 26th at 2:30 PM, as they face off against the No. 2 UNC Pembroke Braves in the Conference Carolinas Softball Championships.
