ETTRICK, VA - The Chowan University women's tennis team earned their fourth straight CIAA victory of the season on Thursday afternoon with a 7-2 win over Virginia State University. The Hawks advance to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in the conference with the win while the Lady Trojans move to 5-1 overall and 5-1 against CIAA competition after the loss.
Doubles duos

Victoria Smolchenkova and
Roxana Daneshjoo /Ann Makhneva earned 8-3 and 8-0 victories in the number one and three doubles positions, respectively.
Cynthia Carrier and
Angelique Gouin dropped a hard fought 8-6 decision in the number two position.
In singles play, the Hawks picked up five victories to secure the 7-2 win. First off the courts was Gouin who earned a 6-0, 6-0 win against Tamisha Richardson in the number four spot. At number five singles,
Jessica De Backre picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Majhanae Thomas to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead. The clinching match came at the number six position with
Natalia Andrade overcoming Annessa Taylor with a 6-2, 6-1 win. In the third position, Carrier handed Sheila James a 6-1, 6-3 loss, while Chowan dropped a match at the number one position with Novachuk falling to Monet Graves 6-4, 6-1. The Hawks' final singles victory was earned by Smolchenkova in the number two position, where she defeated Sydney Yao 6-2, 6-3.
The Hawks return to action on March 18th when they host Salem International University. Match time is set for 3:00pm.
