BLACKSBURG, VA - The Chowan University women's tennis team had little trouble taking down Bluefield State College to pick up an 8-1 win in regional play on Sunday afternoon.  The Hawks improve to a 4-1 overall record on the season with the win while the Big Blues drop to a 1-3 record with the loss.
The number one doubles team of 
Polina Novachuk and 
Victoria Smolchenkova dropped a close 8-6 decision to Wendy Rudhu and Tafadzwa Mawisire. 
Cynthia Carrier and 
Angelique Gouin defeated Laura Hernandez and Maria Hernandez 8-3 in the number two doubles match while Chowan's 
Roxana Daneshjoo and 
Anna Makhneva picked up an 8-2 win over Marta Briales and Alaina Blankenship at the number three doubles position.
With a 2-1 lead after doubles, the Hawks swept through singles winning at each position. Chowan's Novachuk downed Rudhu 6-2, 6-0 at the number one singles position while Smolchenkova took a 6-4, 6-4 win over Mawisire at the number two singles position. At the number three singles position Carrier defeated Laura Hernandez 6-02, 6-2. Gouin won at the number four singles position 7-5, 6-1 over Maria Hernandez while 
Jessica De Backre picked up a win at the number five position defeating Blankenship 6-2, 6-4. Chowan's 
Natalia Andrade took a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Briales at the number six singles position.
The Hawks return to action on March 1st when they travel to Mount Olive, North Carolina to take on the University of Mount Olive. Match time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
