DIG PINK PHOTO GALLERY The Chowan University volleyball team rolled to a straight sets win over Lincoln University (PA) on Monday night. The Hawks improve to 14-7 overall and 11-2 in CIAA play with the victory while the Lady Lions drop to 4-16 on the season and 3-9 in the league. Monday's win marked the fourth straight victory for the Chowan Blue and White and was also Chowan's annual Dig Pink Match.
Chowan opened the match with a 25-15 win over Lincoln (PA), and topped the Lady Lions 25-11 and 25-10 in the second and third sets, respectively.
The Hawks recorded 42 kills over the course of the competition.
Suraya Chase led the effort with 12 kills in the match while
Brittany Tschida tallied eight kills for Chowan.
Caitlin Turner handed out 21 assists.
Bailey Zavala recorded 12 digs followed by
Courtney O'Keefe who notched 10 digs.
Atarah Lindsey paced Lincoln (PA) with six kills in the setback. Shanna King recorded nine assists for the Lady Lions with Mariah Russell handing out 10 digs.
Lincoln (PA) came out firing at the start of the first set, racing to a 4-0 lead. A kill by
Caitlin Turner sparked a 5-1 run, knotting the score 5-5. With the Hawks trailing 7-5, a Lady Lion service error led to a 5-0 run which allowed Chowan to take a 10-7 advantage. Lincoln (PA) was unable to recover from the shift in momentum, and the Hawks secured the 25-15 set win after a service error by the Lady Lions.
Chowan jumped to a 6-2 advantage in set two. Holding a 12-9 lead, a kill by Spencer sparked a 7-0 run for Chowan and left Lincoln (PA) trailing 19-9. The Hawks closed out the set with a 5-0 run and confirmed the 25-11 set two win with a kill by Tschida.
After trailing 4-1 early in set three, the Hawks rolled to a 8-0 run to take a commanding 12-4 lead. Chowan maintained the advantage for the remainder of the contest and solidified the 25-10 set three win with a kill by O'Keefe.
The Hawks return to action on Friday as Chowan plays host to Claflin University. Match time is slated for 7pm.
